Losing your car key can be an unpleasant experience. Getting a replacement key through the dealer can be costly as well. UK Auto Locksmith has specialised technicians that know the

models and can assist you at a low cost.
We've all had that moment when we reach into the back seat to unbuckle the child's car

only to fail. It's embarrassing, frustrating and happens to everyone.
Keys
A lost car key is an everyday occurrence and can be a major difficulty. However the process of getting a new one from a dealer is expensive. UK Auto Locksmiths can offer an alternative that is less expensive and they will have the most up-to-date software and equipment to help you out. To enable them to carry out the job, you'll only need a VIN and evidence of ownership. Another thing they'll require is the kind of key you need. They can provide remotes, flip keys and even Fobs. They are also capable of helping you with the programming of any new keys.
Remotes
Most

drivers keep a spare remote in the house or garage, but when they lose it getting replacement keys from a dealer is expensive and time consuming. This is because most dealers will programme the key using the car's computer which will need to be reset. However, many people buy second-hand keys off the internet that are not programmed to their car. This can be a much cheaper alternative to going to the dealer. But, these key will not start the car because they will not have a transponder chip inside them. You can see the chip (yellow) in this picture below, it is a Dual Inline Package or DIP 18 pin chip. There are also a diode, transistor and resonator, all these parts make up the key's circuit.
Immobilisers
As car immobilisers became popular in the late nineties car theft rates began to decrease, however, thieves are always looking for ways around security systems. The early immobilisers could be removed by using a scanner to locate the chip's coding and then copying it onto the blank key. But technology has improved and thieves have to devise new ways to take advantage of security systems.
Luckily, the majority immobilisers we sell and install are Thatcham Cat 2 certified. This means that they have been tested and approved by the Thatcham Research organisation. This not-for-profit organisation is the grading and approval system for automotive aftermarket alarm and security devices, including car immobilisers.
When the Thatcham approved immobiliser device is activated it will send a coded signal to the Engine Management System of the vehicle, which stops the engine from running until the correct key is present. This means that if the vehicle is "hot wired" following entry it will cut out within 30 seconds, rendering it impossible to start.
Like computers, the immobiliser may be affected and the battery in the interior or the key fob could need to be replaced. The best option is always go for a professional to carry out the task as this will ensure that everything is installed properly and functions.
Transponders
A transponder transmits an identifying signal back when it is interrogated. This allows for the separation between aircrafts and also identifies an aircraft to air traffic controllers when it is using an active radar system. The information sent back by the transponder varies depending on the type of system that is used.
Transponders are also found in satellites and spacecraft to communicate with Earth systems, such as cell phone networks, or other networks of communication. These devices receive incoming signals at a variety of frequencies, and then transmit them on an additional frequency, much like the way repeaters function in land-based cellular phone networks.
Often sophisticated passive transponders may be found on aircraft. They monitor the status of flight and provide navigational information like the aircraft's position, speed and altitude. Air traffic controllers use the information from these transponders to control the flight path and ensure security.
In addition to aircraft transponders Many personal keys have a small transponder. These chips don't require batteries and are purely passive. This allows the ECU read the signal from the transponder when it's installed in the ignition lock.
Most aircrafts have a switch on the flight deck that allows pilots to turn on or off their transponders. They can also choose an "ident" mode that allows the transponder to transmit its unique squawk code and help it stand out on an air traffic control screens.
