Three Wheeled Buggies

New figures show that the three-wheeled buggies that were the emblem of the noughties, which had more money than common sense, are in steep decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers which can handle a wider range of terrain, yet still look swanky and being easy to push.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and a 3 wheel travel stroller year old and found it was able to withstand cobbles, grass, rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. Kath said that "it is sturdy to push and extremely solid when you're on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need periodic pumping) offer built-in suspension which was extremely comfortable for my kids.

The shape and size of the seat is another aspect to consider. You want the seat to be big enough to allow your child to be at ease and to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies have a full lie-flat option while others will only allow an adult facing one.

Easy to Manoeuvre

One of the major advantages of a three-wheel buggy is that it can be much more maneuverable particularly with a child in tow. The way they are built means that the front wheels spin at a whim and are extremely maneuverable and are ideal for tricky terrain such as parks, cobbles, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

I was also impressed with how well it coped with kerbs, especially when using the brake operated by hand. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on a rough terrain."

The only drawback to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel buggy might make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind if your home area is one of the cities. If this is an issue, a 4-wheeled buggy may be a better option for you.
