Keys - Keyless Entry and Proximity Keys
The experts at Skoda's technical department know how to safely unlock and lock your vehicle without the traditional key. The latest systems verify that the keys are within a specified range of the car, and that it was activated through a button press.
The Kamiq is the first vehicle to join

's SUV offensive by boosting the ride height and clever VarioFlex seats that let you move, fold or remove them completely - boosting your boot space.
Transponder Keys
Contrary to the flat metal keys which are mechanically operated with cuts on the top and bottom, transponder (a portmanteau of transmitter and responder) keys are equipped with an electronic microchip inside their key heads. When they are fitted into a car which uses transponder technology the chip transmits an unintentional signal to a receiver situated near the ignition switch. This causes the engine to start when it is programmed for it. Transponder chips were created to stop car thieves from stealing cars which is why they are present in a majority of modern cars.
In World War II, coded messages were transmitted over radio frequencies to determine if an aircraft was hostile or friendly. The same idea was later applied to car keys as well, with General Motors creating the first transponder key in 1985 for its Corvette model. Since then, all new cars come with them, and they are also popular for older models that can be retrofitted to include them.
If your car has this security feature, you must always have an extra key, as the chip can only function properly if it's been scanned. But this isn't 100% secure and some people have found ways to trick the transponder system. This includes tutorials and kits that show how to get around it using electrical relays and wiring.
Proximity Keys
Proximity keys are one of the most recent keyless entry innovations, which are becoming popular on a variety vehicles. They let drivers unlock their vehicles by touching the door handle using the key fob that is in their pocket or bag. The key fob will then communicate with the car, disengaging the immobiliser while allowing the engine to begin.
There are some downsides with proximity key systems though. If the key fob becomes damaged or lost, it will not be used to start your vehicle. It could be expensive to find a locksmith or a dealership to replace it. Batteries also provide power to the fobs, so they'll have to be replaced periodically.
The proximity key technology also has the disadvantage of breaking the cause-and-effect cycle we are used to when using physical keys. If you're using a traditional key and the lock opens, you are aware that you have the key. With proximity-sensing keys, you'll have to be within a certain distance from the car to activate it.
Despite these downsides proximity keys are a great option for drivers who want avoid locking themselves out their vehicles. In case of emergency, keep an extra key in case you own a proximity-key. Contact your local Pop A Lock store to get a quote for services and prices.
Keyless Entry Systems
The days of storing keys outside of the home are long gone and landlords can now provide tenants with greater security by installing keys-free entry systems. These systems are synchronized with back-end software, which allows landlords to monitor entry and exit. These systems also aid tenants in a situation of crisis to access the property.
A keyless entry system sends encrypted signals to an inside receiver. The receiver receives the signal and unlocks your car or starts it. It also can detect a driver's presence and adjust the settings of the vehicle according to their preferences. It will shut the door, for instance the driver is carrying a bag in his hands.
Certain keyless entry systems can be vulnerable to attacks even though they are generally extremely secure. For example, a replay attack is when the remote control signal is recorded and then transmitted to the device at a later time. However, this could be prevented by including in the keyless entry system a method that guarantees that each transmission is distinct from all previous ones.
Another benefit of a keyless entry system is that it doesn't require changing locks after each tenant's turnover. It's expensive to replace locks every time a tenant moves out, so it makes sense that landlords stay away from this expense as much as they can. In addition with a keyless access system all that is needed is resetting the code which is faster and simpler than replacing the entire lock.
