They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the robot vacuums that mop mop cleaners that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuum best vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
