The top controls include the Home button and Spot Mode that allows you to sweep a specific area. This model features an easy-to-maintain filter that can remove up to 99 percent of allergens and pollutants.

6. iRobot Roomba 980SP

This iRobot robot does a good job cleaning carpets and hard floors, but it is expensive. It's also smarter than its predecessors and can recognize when it has taken up enough debris to be full and then return to its charging station for a recharge.

It utilizes the latest mapping technology to navigate and find rooms with greater ease. It can be placed under most sofas, although not all of them and will not get caught in power cords or other obstacles.
