1. iRobot s8

This smart robot vacuum and mop combo is an excellent choice for many homes. It has a great navigation system that incorporates GPS and laser sensors. It also has a lot of features and controls accessible via the app. It also has a handy feature that lets you create Cleaning zones in areas that require extra attention, and also to create Keep Out zones in areas you don't wish it to go. And, like all Roomba devices, it receives new software updates that make it even better over time.

It's costly, but it's is also one of the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It has a high-powered battery that can sweep a large home in under two hours, and it can switch between mopping and vacuuming at the touch of one button. 2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

While Anker-owned Eufy has made its name in low-cost robot vacuums it's never offered an all-in-one model that could also mop. That's changed with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive suite of advanced features that can compete against much more expensive models.

Eufy's main selling point with this device is its laser navigation. The previous Eufy devices have constructed an outline of your home using infrared sensors and bumping into objects however the X8's laser mapping technology is much more accurate. It also takes a lot less time to construct an accurate picture of your home and can store multiple maps, which is ideal for multi-floor homes.

The X8 is a great vacuum cleaner on bare floors. It is able to easily throw debris under the side brushes and into its 400ml dustbin. The X8's tyres, despite their circular shape, are very good at grabbing corners and edges. Our tests revealed that it was able to remove 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

The basic mopping mode uses the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. While this is a good option for loose spills but you cannot control how much water it uses which can limit its effectiveness on more severe stains. However, it does an excellent job of picking up pet hair, with a better pickup rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, powerful appliances. It is a stunning design, a great navigation system, and excellent cleaning power. However, it has some operational hiccups which prevent it from being considered as the best overall smart robot vacuum.

Like the latest models from iRobot like the RX2 comes with a dual-sensor mapping system that uses the lidar robot vacuum sensor to map an area and two 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once the room has been mapped and assigned, you can designate virtual no-go areas and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also change the cleaning modes, start cleaning manually or watch live feeds of the onboard cameras from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors work well in registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. And its sweeping and suction power are top-of-the-line, picking up surface litter from carpets of medium pile and dust on floors with no floor. However, it's not exactly the most agile robot on the market. It's not the greatest climber, and it has problems with metal threshold transition strips.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac is a robot that looks like any other, but comes with some extra features and better performance. Its intelligent mapping system creates 2D and 3D maps of your home and uses them to avoid obstacles and navigate. It can even detect common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors along with a bump detector, and an infrared sensor to keep the vacuum off steps makes it one our most agile vacuums.

It was able to walk over thick shag carpets and was not stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690-). Its navigational skills were also impressive; its composite score in carpet and bare floors topped the competition and it took in 98.5 percent of surface litter and embedded pet hair from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are less basic than the competition's. There's a clean button at the top, and you can choose to start it by using the app or Self Cleaning Robot Vacuum voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule daily or weekly cleanings, designate no-go zones, and look up its cleaning history. Ion is clad in a stylish dark gray plastic that feels and looks appealing in your home. The dust bin on the rear is easy to access for emptying and removing the filter equally easy.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a basic, no-frills robot vacuum at a reasonable cost, the Eufy11S could be a good choice. It isn't equipped with some of the smart features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, found in higher-end models, however, if you don't require those functions you can save a little cost with this model.

This robot is simple to set up and use. It doesn't require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi connection, however it does have the ability to control the remote with a remote that allows you to select between different modes and adjust the suction level. It also lets you manually take the robovac off for scheduled cleaning.

During our tests, we found that the 11S was extremely efficient in removing dirt and pet fur from hard floors and low-pile carpets. Its slim profile helped it get under furniture and other objects that more bulkier robots couldn't reach. It was able to get effortlessly over door thresholds and switch from one floor type to another.

The 11S, as with other robots, will also eat some objects, such as cords and cat toys. The manufacturer says that you can stop this by keeping these items off the floor and using a cord organizer if possible. It also recommends that you regularly clean the dustbin, replace the filters, and clean or change the brushes as necessary.

Roomba 990 from iRobot

The Roomba is iRobot’s flagship robot vacuum. It's pricey however it's top-performing and is arguably the most sophisticated robot vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigation feature and environmental mapping is a marvel to behold. It has more advanced automation than its competitors, including the capability to set up virtual boundary markers using its mobile app. Although the app is a little sluggish and the 980 can spin out a bit when rolling over cables, it's still a highly efficient robot vacuum.

One thing we love about the 980 is the fact that it utilizes its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneous localisation and mapping technology (or vSLAM) to memorise the floor plan of your home. It then uses this information to design a consistent and efficient cleaning path for every cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a cleaner vacuum than other high-end robot vacuums.
