Shark's top-of-the-line self-emptying robotic vacuum, the ION XL is an excellent choice for people looking for hands-off cleaning with the highest level of performance. The robot vacuum has an enormous bin that can store the equivalent of a month's worth dirt and the base can be set to automatically empty it at the end of every cleaning session for longer-term storage. The ION XL robot vacuum is one of the most flexible on the market. It can clean carpets and hard floors. You can control the robot with an app or voice commands, and you can create the map of your house to clean each room at the click of a button. The robot can also navigate around furniture and traverse stairs and carpeted rooms with ease.

I tried the ION XL in a kitchen and family room with hardwood flooring, area rugs and a standard test for debris. It did an excellent job vacuuming, clearing debris and pet hair from the floors, and even took care of some of the more difficult crumbs on carpets. It also did a great job moving and didn't hit my bar stools as did the iRobot j7+ in this test. The only drawback to the ION XL is that it cannot detect cords, shoes, or toys that are in its path. You will need to clean your home prior to when you run this robotic vacuum to avoid them.

The ION XL robotic cleaner is not as intelligent as the iRobot J7+, but it's an excellent option if you do not want to spend more than $500 on a robot. It is better than the less expensive RoboVac 11S in most ways and is simpler to maintain and requiring lower recurring costs. It also performs better at vacuuming bare floors and picking up pet hair, but it can't perform as well on lowor high-pile carpet.

It is also not as well-built as the Roborock S8, but it is a great option. The ION XL has a large bin capacity, and it can be controlled via an app and voice command, and it is easy to keep up with routine maintenance. It's also a great price.
