Twilight Princess Game Review
The most sombre and dark of the Nintendo 3D Zelda games, Twilight Princess pushes the limits of graphics to the maximum limits on the Wii's hardware. It's more frightening and mysterious than The Wind Waker, with the absence of bug-eyed pig guards, or even effeminate pirates.
Link is dragged into a parallel dimension known as Twilight Realm, where he takes the form of an Hylian and a wolf while being guided by Midna.
Gameplay
Twilight Princess is the thirteenth installment in The Legend of Zelda series. It was released for the Nintendo GameCube and Wii systems in the year 2006. Reviewers praised the game with excellent scores in a variety of publications such as 1UP CVG EGM and GamesRadar. Many consider it to be the most enjoyable game in the series and also the most well-known Zelda game on the PAL market.
Twilight Princess has a stylized, naturalistic style of graphics that is similar to Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, but with a more sophisticated graphic engine. Twilight

is the first game in the series to feature an entirely directional motion control system, instead of a fixed view like the previous games. This change was made to accommodate the Wii console's pointing-based interface. The GameCube version of the game comes with an area in the back with mirror-image maps for those who prefer the traditional fixed view.
Upon entering the Twilight Realm, Link is transformed into a wolf, and then meets Midna, a mysterious creature. She reveals to Link that the kingdom of Hyrule is now under the control of a group of shadow beasts that are led by the evil sorcerer Zant. She also explains that she is the real ruler of Twili but was supplanted by Zant and cursed to her current form.
A short cutscene shows the soldiers being slain by shadow beasts when Link and Midna arrive at Hyrule Castle. Link and Midna then escape from the castle by a tunnel to enter the Twilight Realm.
Link can move more freely in the Twilight Realm by using his Wolf form. Additionally, he can use his senses to navigate through the world. For instance, he can detect the spirits of deceased soldiers and other animals that are in the distance. He can also whistle and pick grass from specific patches to summon an animal such as the Hawk, Epona or other. Link can also howl near the patches to summon a similar animal.
As with earlier Zelda games, music plays a large part in Twilight Princess. Link can play an instrument that is musical, such as the flute or the harp, in order to attract and call on various animals. He can also command the wolf's form using his voice. He can also use his compass to guide him to help him navigate the world.
Characters
The Legend of Zelda series is full of vibrant characters that leave a lasting impression on players. From hands that come out of toilets to pirates traversing vast oceans, these unique and imaginative characters are the core of the game. Twilight Princess continues the tradition of previous games by introducing a variety of memorable characters.
Through the course of the story, Link meets new NPCs who are not just fascinating, but also credible. It's a huge step forward that so many of these NPCs aren't just there as victims they actually are a part of the story. NPCs such as Rusl who explains how the forest is becoming more dangerous and kidnaps children, or the Ordon villagers who sneak around as wolves while the children are being kidnapped They all have distinct personalities that feel genuine.
Other notable characters include Iza who runs the Boat Rental Cabin and Iza's Rapid Ride in the Lanayru Province, Louise, Telma's cat who helps Wolf Link locate a secret passageway through her bar as well as sewer system that leads to the castle and Faron who's spirit helps guide Link and Midna to the Forest Temple in the Eldin Province. The duo defeats Diababa's Fused Shadow and obtains the first Tear of Light.
Midna is the princess of the Twilight Realm and one of the most captivating characters in the game. She possesses a fragment of the Triforce of Wisdom and can shift between her human form and her wolf-like impish form. She talks to Link about her experiences at the twilight, and how she defeated Zant the King of Twilight.
Zant is the evil sorcerer who rules the Twilight Realm. He possesses the second part of the Triforce of Wisdom. He was removed to the Twilight Realm by the goddesses for encroaching on their land and depriving the people. Zant's magic keeps him permanently in wolf form, but Midna dispells the power and allows him to transform into his human form as needed.
Epona is a better horse that can be riding in both Wolf and Hylian forms. Link can whistle at specific patches of grass to summon the animal. (similar to Majora’s Mask). The player is able to identify the horse which makes Twilight Princess the first time in the series that the player can customize their own horse.
Theme
Music is among the most crucial elements of any Zelda game and can make a world feel huge exciting, epic, and thrilling. However, Twilight Princess is criticized for having an inconsistent and unreliable soundtrack that doesn't capture the emotional impact of certain moments. Ocarina of Time Majora's Mask and other games have stunning compositions that bloom at the perfect moment to give you a sense of grandeur and eeriness.
Twilight Princess was composed by Asuka Ohta and Toru Minegishi. Koji Kondo, the series' composer for the first since Wind Waker was in charge of overseeing the composers. The soundtrack for Twilight Princess is a radical departure from the usual approach to the series, and features a the minimalist approach to music and arrangements. Most field and dungeon themes begin with a single instrument, creating an atmospheric and mysterious atmosphere for the player. For instance, the eerie music in Midna's Lament utilizes a simple piano to create an overflowing sense of sorrow for the player.
The most prominent examples are dungeon themes, with a dull atmosphere. This style is evident in the Twilight Realm theme, which has a sonic landscape that would fit in the soundtrack to a David Lynch film. The lack of melody and the traditional arrangement of this track emphasizes its ominous, unsettling nature. Drones and bizarre patterns intertwine to create a dark and eerie sound.
A more uplifting and joyous song is Link's hometown, "Faron Woods." The song makes use of a variety of strings and soft sounds to create a calm and secure feeling for the player. The song also includes subtle references to the franchise's most well-known scene, as it features the riff which is similar to the famous tune that plays at the beginning of Ocarina of Time.
Twilight Princess also has dynamic songs that change depending on the player's location, what they do, and what is happening. For example, the Hyrule Castle Town theme has various versions for each part of the town with Central Square having a more lively and full version of the tune. These variations are a nice touch that helps to add an atmosphere of depth and immersion to the world of Hyrule.
Story
The story of Twilight Princess revolves around Link trying to prevent Hyrule from being sucked into the corrupted dimension known as the Twilight Realm. To accomplish this, he takes the form of both a Hylian and an Wolf, as well as being helped by a woman called Midna.
Midna is the original ruler of the Twili, but she was supplanted by Zant and cursed to her imp form. The Sages of the Old Testament explain to Link and Midna that only the defeat of Ganondorf can be the key to their release from their curse. The Sages explain that the Mirror of Twilight causes the darkness to be present in the Twilight Realm. Midna and Link travel to the Spirit's Spring where they encounter dangerous creatures that kidnap children. Wolf Link's keen ear assists them in tracking the children's scent to a bridge nearby that they cross over into the Twilight Realm.
They enter the Forest Temple and battle Diababa to obtain the first Fused Shadow. Faron then informs them of the next destination, the Eldin Province in the west (Wii) or east (GCN).
Midna, at the Lakebed Temple of Lanayru teleports Link to a fiery stone and unleashes her power on the ice below Lake Hylia. Rutela's spirit, who was the recently gone Zora queen appears to Link and informs Link that he must visit the Lakebed Temple if he wants to unlock the treasure of Zora.

. Link can choose the name of the horse, unlike the predetermined names of the previous games.
Midna and Link are able to recover the remaining Mirror Shards once they arrive in the Twilight Realm. In the Palace of Twilight, the Sages reveal that Midna is actually the real ruler of the Twili however she had been passed over for the monarchy, and then turned into an idol for power. The Sages advise them that they will be defeated by Ganondorf when they bring Ganondorf to the light and break the pact made between the Twilight kingdom and Hyrule kingdom.
