More than anything else success in picking depends on experience and practice with a range of locks. The numbers on the front of the practice locks indicate the keying codes, from the front-most pin stack to the rear-most. Master keying does not introduce any significant complications for lock picking. Master ring cylinders (which are no longer in common commercial production but were once marketed by Corbin) use this mechanism to provide independently-keyed master keying. Here, however, tighter tolerances and, in some cases, high-security secondary mechanisms, are more common. The Primus sidebar is keyed by additional side tumblers that engage a secondary bitting cut into the side of the key. Many of these mechanisms involve the use of a "sidebar" that must retract before the plug can rotate. Eventually, you'll reach a point where the plug will turn ever so slightly and the pin will not go up any farther. Let it go out in the same way as you would nestle yourself down into an extremely comfortable bed, where you sink in and in and in, and you let it flow out through your lips, so that you will know by the feel of air on your lips that you are really breathing and not just straining your muscles.

If you release pressure with your pick while still applying torque, the bottom pin will drop freely, and will not have any spring pressure if you try to push it back up.
