World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.

If the template for upgrading a weapon is %, it will be able to gain an additional 3% of the previous attack damage each time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level rises.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons, and trinkets in order to provide a stat bonus or extra effect when they're used. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must have been at least upgraded to the blue level for a component to be applied. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled if the player has enough tokens to be able to do this. This causes the item to be traded for a new one, which will have a level 1 base and a completely different set of extra bonuses. This can be beneficial however it shouldn't be done often as it could waste resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled several times to increase their value, allows the player to modify their gear. The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is determined on the rarity rating as well as the number of upgrade slots.
