WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade item increases the level of the item by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be bought by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which will show a preview of the item upgrader kit at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the Item level Upgrade and the current level of the item as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a specific item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to that level will cost less, even in the event that they belong to a different gear set.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced too, but it is only available once certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade items. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it will bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrader equipment available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
