However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the rivals. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
