In 1941 the American News Company (ANC) created Avon Publications as a paperback book publisher. The company began by focusing on comics, but later expanded to other genres, including romance.

Avon is now owned by HarperCollins which also owns Harlequin. Their Diamond Anniversary is currently underway.
