It also can detect the unique layout of your home and create a Smart Map to help you get a better clean. The app allows you to create "Keep Out Zones" that stop robots from buzzing around specific areas, like cables, or pet waste.

This Roomba's advanced navigation system combines iRobot's top-of-the-line Precision Vision navigation with a camera that recognizes household objects and obstacles. The cameras let it avoid common obstacles like shoes and cords bags, socks pet toys, backpacks and bags. It then can deploy custom-designed cleaning around these objects. The Combo i5/i5+ also comes with the patent-pending Dirt Detect technology which allows the robot to pay more attention on dirty spots.

The robot's automatic emptying Clean Base can store up to 60 days of debris and it reduces the necessity for manual maintenance. It also has a recharge-and-resume feature that sends the quiet robot vacuum to its homebase for charging whenever its battery runs out. It then picks up exactly where it left off.

The i5+ robotic is ideal for homes with a lot of. It's however not designed for carpeted or stairways. It also has a limited dustbin capacity, meaning it won't be able to clean the entire house in the event of a large amount of pet waste or debris. If you're seeking a Roomba that can take on more challenging environments, consider the i7 or i9 models. These robots can be used to mop wet areas and are better equipped for stairs. The Combo i7+ has a simple setup process, with a clear on-screen guide that will guide you through the initial registration and set-up. The i7+ is also simple to program, allowing you to schedule cleaning sessions and set virtual boundaries that it will follow.

In our tests, we found that the i7+ was able to climb over floor breaks and other obstacles with ease. It was able to detect furniture and other obstructions without issue. However, it was unable to overcome a 2 inch marble slab that divides the kitchen and living room. Its edge cleaning is also superior to what we have seen with cheaper robot vacuums. It has a strong grip on corners.

Once the i7+ reached its maximum capacity, it goes back to its Clean Base and empties its contents. Then it gets ready for the next clean. When it's time to add cleaning fluid, simply hit a button on the side of the robot and the small water tank and dustbin clips open.

The only real downside is that the Clean Base occupies a lot of space. This makes it difficult to keep the i7+ in a cupboard when it's not being used. This is a problem that's common with robot cleaners, and a majority of manufacturers have smaller charging stations that are smaller. They are also capable of fitting under cabinets, making it easier to conceal your iRobot when not in use. irobot vacuum cleaner and mop has reached out to us following publication to clarify that the Combo i7+ is designed to be used only with the manufacturer-approved cleaning solution (sold separately). It should not contain water as it could cause damage to internal components and decrease performance.

The robot vacuums and mop simultaneously, using its dual stainless steel arms to grab dirt and debris as it moves. It also lowers its mop pad when it sees carpets to prevent getting the rugs wet which is a great feature. This feature, dubbed Dry Rug Intelligence by iRobot was a great success during my tests and was a significant improvement over earlier Roomba models, which could only vacuum or mop without changing modes.

The iRobot app lets you design a cleaning schedule and access history and status updates. The app also includes "robot health" data, such as how long your iRobot can run before it requires an upgrade to a pad or filter. There are also detailed instructions, troubleshooting suggestions, advanced settings for adjusting the mopping water level as well as the number of mopping passes per floor and more.

The new navigation software for the i8 helps it navigate around your home and is able to maneuver around obstacles, such as power cords. The navigation system can also adjust its cleaning route according to the different floors. If you live in a big home, the i8 could require several runs before it's finished mapping.

The i9+ also is one of our favorites for cleaning bare floor surfaces. It's effective at clearing away a wide mix of types of debris and does it without leaving streaks or scratching marks on the floor, unlike some of the competitors (we'd recommend the eufy X10 Pro Omni for pet enthusiasts).
