World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level, and also boost other stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increase when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader you choose and the type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to the fact that many perks have to be replaced in order for the
item upgrading
to get upgraded.
It is also used to enforce gating requirements when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment players can evaluate the levels of the item. It's a sign of the item's condition and quality. The item level can also be used to compare items when examining the inventory of a seller.
The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full description of the item, including its ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are a few theories about how the item level calculation is done. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the value of an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different perks are valued differently, and that gems found in sockets boost the value of the item. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
However, this isn't the only factor that can affect an
item upgrader kit
's ilvl because the size of the area the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, for example by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the
Best item upgrade
." The stats of a base weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification which are then boosted by the player's level.
Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item for instance, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Another way to change the stats of an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could provide the item extra damage, or add a unique ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting a special name to the item.
At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circles arrows. It will cost a set amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other methods of rerolling.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it's an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
This is another aspect that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. As with the base equipment, this would have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of those properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to
upgrade items
. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is particularly useful in the early game, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances that increase with each new level of item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.
Furthermore there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.
The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.
The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. Every item has a base success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by five percent.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects may be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
