Keys
The loss of a car's key is a frequent occurrence and can be a major trouble. However finding a new key from the dealer can be expensive. UK Auto Locksmiths can offer a much cheaper alternative, and they will have the latest software and equipment to assist you. All you require is a VIN number and proof of ownership to allow them to carry out the work. They'll also have to be aware of what kind of key you require. They can supply flip keys, remotes, and even Fobs. They can also help you program new keys.
Remotes
Most

drivers keep a spare remote in the house or garage, but when they lose it getting replacement keys from a dealer is expensive and time consuming. This is because most dealers will programme the key using the car's computer which will need to be reset. However, many people buy second-hand keys off the internet that are not programmed to their car. This can be a much cheaper alternative to going to the dealer. But, these key will not start the car because they will not have a transponder chip inside them. You can see the chip (yellow) in this picture below, it is a Dual Inline Package or DIP 18 pin chip. There are also a diode, transistor and resonator, all these parts make up the key's circuit.
Immobilisers
The theft rate of cars began to decrease when car immobilisers began to become popular in the late 1990s. However, thieves are always on the lookout for ways to get around security systems. They were able to get through the early immobiliser systems using a scanning tool to find the code on the transponder chip and then copying it to a blank key, but since then, technology has improved and they've been forced to come up with new tricks.
Fortunately, the majority immobilisers that we supply and install are Thatcham Cat 2 certified. This means that they've been tested and certified by the Thatcham Research organisation. This non-profit organisation is responsible for the system of grading and approval of aftermarket security devices for automobiles and alarm systems, including car immobilisers.
When the Thatcham approved system is activated it will send a signal coded to the Engine Management System (EMS) of the vehicle, which stops the engine from starting if it does not have the correct key. This means that if the car is "hot wired" following entry it will cut out within 30 seconds, rendering it impossible to start.
As with computers, the immobiliser may develop problems and sometimes the battery in the interior or the key fob could require replacement. The best option is always go for a professional to carry out the task as this will ensure that everything is fitted properly and functions.
Transponders
A transponder sends an identification signal back when it is probed. This identifies the aircraft to air traffic control when it is operating on a radar system and helps to maintain the separation between aircrafts. The information that is transmitted by the transponder is different based on the kind of system used.
Transponders are also present in spacecrafts and satellites to communicate with Earth systems such as cell phone networks and other communication networks. These devices receive incoming signals in a variety frequencies, and then retransmit them on an additional frequency, similar to how repeaters function in land-based cell phone networks.
The most sophisticated passive transponders are typically found on board aircraft. They are utilized to monitor the status of the flight and provide information on navigation like the aircraft's location speed, altitude, speed and the route. Transponders are able to provide information that air traffic controllers can utilize to control flight paths, and ensure safety.
In addition to transponders for aircraft, a lot of personal keys contain a small transponder chip. These chips are passive and do not require batteries. This allows the ECU to read the signal of the transponder once it is installed in the ignition lock.
Most aircrafts have a switch on the flight deck that permits pilots to turn on or off their transponders. They can also choose an "ident" mode that allows the transponder's unique squawk coding and help it stand out on a busy air traffic control screen.
