saab key fob
Key Programming
Saab cars made since 1994 utilize an immobilizer that relies on coded keys. The addition of a key requires a new transponder and special programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
The problem is that it can be quite costly. This is the reason why you should always keep a spare key in your possession.
Transponder key
The transponder is a key that is equipped with an electronic chip. This chip sends out a signal when the key is inserted in the ignition. The car will check to see if the signal matches the one on the key. If both signals match the car will then unlock itself and begin. This is a great method to stop auto theft and keep your car secure from thieves.
Transponder keys could be an increasingly popular feature for automobiles, but they are not as safe as traditional metal keys. The metal component of a traditional keys can be easily copied and cut, but a transponder has an electronic chip that guards it. The chip contains a unique code which is programmed into a car's computer order to identify it.
The car will recognize the Saab keyfob, and allow it to turn on. However, it can only do so if the key fob has an unmodified chip that has been programmed to match the original. The car will not start if the key is not programmed to match.
It is important to have an extra

key. This is particularly important if you live in a rural location where there are a lot of car thieves. The good news is that it's possible to find a replacement key to your Saab without having to go to a dealer and pay the hefty prices that they charge. You can have the

key on the spot for less than half of the price you'd spend at dealerships.
Key for Wired
Saab cars usually come with two keys when they are new. If you only have one, you should get an additional key as fast as you can. This is because if the key is

the car will require a new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This could be expensive especially if you're buying a second-hand car.
The next step is connecting the row and columns wires to your microcontroller. This is the most challenging part of the project and will require a large deal of soldering. It's not a common way to go about it, however, you should consider how you will route and solder each column and row. There are 22 microcontroller wires and pins to connect to this keyboard. It includes 5 rows and 17 columns.
After the columns and rows are soldered, it's time to connect them to key switches. To do this you must place a diode over each pin of the key switch and solder it. This will shield the pins that are used for key switches from current and keep them from being shorted. The diode allows current to only flow in one direction. It has a visual indicator that is black, that indicates the direction in which current will flow.
Sanabria states that a number of the tools sold in auto parts stores, including the Autel MaxiIM IM608PRO and the IM508 are able to assist customers shopping or DIY users to program replacement keys and restore immobilizer data. The tools plug into the OBD port and guide the user through the process, making it more simple than replacing the computer in the vehicle.
Jump starting the battery
A lot of people keep a set of jumper cables in their trunks for emergency situations however, jumping a battery on modern automobiles might not be the most efficient option. These vehicles are equipped with a number of electronic devices and computers that communicate with one another. A surge in voltage when a battery is connected to another battery could damage the components and render your vehicle unusable.
Connect the cables to the vehicle operating. Let it run for two minutes. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the good battery. (It will say "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end of the black cable to a clean, unpainted metal surface under the disabled vehicle's hood. An engine block is an excellent choice. Do not connect the black cable to the negative terminal on the dead battery, as it could spark an ignition that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.
Once the cables are connected, you can start the vehicle you are not using and let it run for about five minutes before disconnecting them in reverse order. The battery in the Saab 9-3 will charge as you drive. It takes a while for it to return to its original state. It's a good idea to purchase a spare key fob as soon as you can, because replacing the only working one requires the installation of a brand new computer module and a special program to convince the system that your lost keys aren't in the process of trying to steal the car.
Replacement case
Saab owners typically only have one car key, and if that is lost, they will be charged. It's expensive to purchase the key and also requires replacing the CIM or TWICE for older models. In the event of theft or any other catastrophe, it is best to have an extra key. Even if the key is "new", it will not function.
Most locksmiths can't help you when you only have one working key, and the dealer will charge high fees to replace the computer in your car to make a replacement. We can reset and reprogram the computer's EEEPROM to be able to accept a replacement key without having to replace the entire system. That can save you a lot of money. It's cheaper to do this than waiting until you lose your only key.
