WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item upgrades by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrading upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than buying new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to upgrade items weapons tools, armor, and accessories. Players can purchase them through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. button, which will display a preview of the item at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item upgrade and the current level of the item upgrading, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via several methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will be less expensive, even when they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for equipment with a certain rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type or equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item level upgrade (view it now) in the proper steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
