Sony Headphones Review - The Best
over-Ear noise cancelling headphones
Cancelling Headphones
The fifth-generation Sony noise cancelling headphones are a little different from the previous model but sound just as great. The headphones are lightweight, comfortable, and feature various features that include Quick Attention mode and Speak-to-Chat. They also come with wear detection and AI-powered DSEE Extreme upscaling audio.
The ANC is very powerful and reduces train noise to a minimal rumble. The 'pass-through' option allows you to hear sounds from outside in the event of a need.
1. Sony WH-1000XM5
Sony's headphones are always among the top in the market in the field of noise cancelling. The fifth generation of WH1000XM5s are not an exception. They provide one of the best noise cancelling experiences we've ever experienced. Strapping a pair on and activating noise cancellation is like walking into a veritable cone of silence: Engine sounds, the whir of HVAC systems,

the creaking metal, and even conversations with neighbors are quiet to an unimaginable degree.
The XM5s also shine on the audio front. Their wide soundstage allows the entire song to breathe and shine. On Billie Eilish's Bad Guy for example, the drums are pounding with a satisfying amount force and power while the soaring vocals blend throughout the mix.
Other features that make the XM5s stand out are their intelligent interactions with your smart device. They will detect when they're being removed from your head and stop music, they'll notice that you're driving on a noisy road and automatically lower the noise cancelling levels and connect with two devices simultaneously to switch between them, depending on what you need more urgently.
The WH-1000XM5s also have a low environmental impact. They are made from recycled plastic and acrylonitrile styrene (ABS), with a headband made of high-end fabric. They come with a collapsible carrying case that folds to create a compact pouch, plus an 3.5mm-to-3.5mm accessory cable to listen in passive mode. The ear cups can be removed for easy cleaning. In addition, the XM5s run on rechargeable batteries that can provide up to 20 hours of playtime when on a full charge. Additionally, they're equipped with an adaptive speed charging system that charges twice the speed of standard USB headphones.
2. Bose QuietComfort 35
The Bose QuietComfort 35/QC35 II Wireless 2018 are more adaptable than the Audio-Technica ATHDR9BT Wireless headphones because of their extremely comfortable fit, well-balanced audio profile, and ANC feature that blocks out a lot of background noise. The Bose headphones come with 20 hours of battery life, and are more convenient to charge and can be used with a smartphone even when the battery is empty. This makes them a great choice for those who are looking for headphones that can be used as commuter headphones or as travel headphones.
These premium Bose headphones have a dedicated button that activates Google Assistant, which will play music, answer trivia questions, and even read your phone notifications. They have great

cancellation abilities. They're a bit old-fashioned in comparison to the standards of 2020 but you can find excellent bargains.
The QC35s, along with other Bose ANC headsets, do a good job at cancelling ambient noise. Their noise reduction technology has also improved over the years. They're not the top ANC headphone available, especially when compared to the latest models. Audiophiles may want to look elsewhere for a better sound.
Similar to the Sonys The QC35s are able to connect to two devices at once and "audio share" one of them with a companion, which is useful if you're looking to listen music with one ear while conversing with someone else. These headphones are also popular among frequent flyers, and have that classic Bose design that a lot of people love. If you're looking for a way to spice up your QC35s with a touch of personalization, decal cover-ups like SlickWraps and Skin Sticker are available at a reasonable price.
3. Sony WH-1000XM4
The WH-1000XM4s from Sony aren't much different in terms of aesthetics or comfort however, their noise cancellation technology is a completely new beast. Sony has replaced the old system-on-chip (SoC) for a brand new one, which it claims allows it to more accurately listen to and react to ambient audio in real-time, and reduce the mid- and high-frequency sound by using its Dual Noise Sensor technology.
Two microphones that feed forward into each earcup capture ambient sound. This is then processed by the QN1 noise cancellation processor to reduce it quickly without affecting the quality of your audio. The result is an impressive level of noise cancellation that easily competes with the best headphones at this price.
There's even a sensitivity control that allows you to adjust the level of noise cancellation according to your needs. If you're in a public space for instance you may want to allow a bit of ambient noise to be blocked out, while at home you'll want a more secluded listening experience. This feature makes use of geo-location to apply the right setting based on where you are.
The WH-1000XM4s can be utilized for hands-free calls. They have a whopping 30 hours of battery life, along with quick charging capabilities. The WH-1000XM4s come with an extremely robust Bluetooth connection that supports multipoint and NFC support. In my testing an instant remaster of Paul McCartney's Flaming Pie sounded clear and vibrant, while even rough mixes and home recordings sound clear and full.
Download the Sony Headphones Connect companion app to get the most from these headphones. You can alter the EQ and enjoy convenience features such as Bluetooth multipoint. It also unlocks cool new stuff, like Sony's 360 Reality Audio immersive sound mastering process.
4. Sony WH-CH720N
The Sony WH-CH720N headphones are a great option if you're looking to buy a pair that offers outstanding active noise cancellation at affordable costs. The 710N Wireless is a step up over its predecessor with more efficient ANC performance and better audio quality. The 710N Wireless also has a slimmer design with battery life of up to 35 hours.
If you're looking for premium features like LDAC Bluetooth support and Smart Listening with voice assistant integration, these headphones aren't suitable for you. Also, they don't come with a carry case or auto-pause function, and the earcups aren't foldable which could make them difficult to carry around.
The quality of the WH-CH720N's construction is decent however, it's not as great as an 1000XM5. The earcups and headband are made of plastic, which is light and comfortable to wear for extended periods but will not stand up to rigorous use or some tumbling on hard surfaces. The design is quite bulky and the earcups can creak when you move your head. The controls are easy to use with tactile buttons that provide good clicky feedback. The ANC is toggled on and off by a single push of the power switch. Pressing and holding the button will activate Sony's Adaptive audio Control. This feature lets you select an audio profile that is preset depending on the way you're using the headphones (e.g., "Staying at Work" or "Running") or the current location (with your phone's permission to decide this).
The WH-CH720N is one of the most affordable pairs of wireless noise cancelling headphones available on the market. For the price you'll get excellent ANC and excellent sound quality, lightweight comfort and up to 35 hours of battery life. These headphones are worth checking for if you frequently commute.
5. Earfun Air Pro
Earfun's headsets and earbuds are renowned for offering great value, and the Air Pro is no exception. They're great for calls and exciting for music, while their ANC blocks a good amount of noise without making you feel as if your ears are squeezed. These headphones also have a lot of features that are found in headphones that cost up to twice as much.
The earbuds are over-emphasized in the bass area, which creates a rumble in most tracks. The lead vocals and instruments remain bright and clear. This makes them perfect for a variety of music. However, they may sound a bit stuttery to some. Their frequency response is very consistent, meaning that they sound the same no matter what you listen to.
We played Missy Elliott's Get Ur Freak On, and the earbuds did a fantastic job of showcasing the song's bass-heavy introduction with fervor and enthusiasm. Stormzy's Vossi Bop had a similar fluid sound with the treble accentuating the vocals and the percussion.
Voice quality is excellent, even in noisy environments. The earbuds use the latest Qualcomm chip to maintain call clarity with background noises and clicks kept at bay even when talking near the London Underground at rush hour.
The Bluetooth connectivity of the earbuds is excellent, with only a few issues we encountered during our testing. They connect quickly and with low latency to iOS and Android devices. They are IPX5 waterproof, meaning they are suitable for rain or workouts. However they shouldn't be submerged in water. They also come with a carry-on case that can hold two and a half batteries which is ideal for travelling.
