How to Replace a Saab 9-3 Key
The Saab 9-3 is a fantastic car that provides a lot of appeal for drivers. It is powerful and has good visibility. It also has a high safety rating.
It is important that you have two keys that are compatible for your vehicle. If you lose just one key, it could be expensive to replace it with a new one.

If the car key won't turn on it is time to replace it. This guide will show how to replace the ignition key on the Saab 9-3. You'll need a replacement key, a new reprogrammable battery and a brand new key-fob case.
The majority of modern Saab models utilize a transponder instead of a metal key to unlock the car and then start it. The rechargeable batteries contained in the key-fob become worn out and cannot hold any charge. This is particularly true if you keep using the same key on the same lock.
The good news is that it can be replaced fairly easily by a professional locksmith. If you have the right tools and patience, you can do it yourself. The first step involves separating the key-fob. This is done by inserting a flathead screwdriver into the slot located in middle of the case. The plastic is very thin and is easily damaged.
After the case has been opened, you can create the new key by combining lower part of the old key with transponder and banana. This will ensure the new key is properly connected to your CIM and can make a significant difference when replacing the sole key of your Saab 9-3.

Unless you have two keys, you'll have to take off the steering wheel and

dashboard to gain access to the ignition. Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable. After the battery has been disconnected, you can take off the trim and dashboard pieces that surround the steering wheel. Once the dash has been taken off, you can push a screwdriver through the opening behind the ignition switch and remove it.
The ignition cylinder is fitted with a key lock that can stop the vehicle from starting if you don't contain the key. If your 900's ignition switch isn't working, look at the key to determine if it's in the lock or is stuck in the ignition barrel. It is also important to rotate your keys and keep them clean to prevent bent.
Saab cars differ from other vehicles because they do not use traditional metal keys. Instead, the car detects the key fob's electric signals through a chip that is specifically designed for it.
If you lose your sole working key fob, the dealer will charge the highest dollar to replace the computer module (known as the CIM). We can however reprogram your existing computer EEPROM and prepare it to accept new keys without replacing it. This can save you more than 50% of what the dealer charges! This is the SAAB KEY PROGRAM. Find out more information about it here!
How do you replace the ignition Key in the Saab9-5
The metal part of classic Saab keys is easy to duplicate and does not represent a significant risk to theft of vehicles. The electronic part of the key-fob has a chip that can recognize the car when the key is inserted in the ignition switch.
Saab's anti-theft system has relied upon this technology for more than a decade. It's not as good as an actual lock on the door but it makes the process of stealing your vehicle more difficult. Every Saab owner needs to keep a

Saab key in their car.
The majority of new Saabs are delivered with two keys, however they can be purchased from a dealer using a special handheld device referred to as a Tech-2. The cost can be under $400 for the transmitter+transponder (different than the metal key blade/shell that opens the doors and turns the ignition cylinder). The only exception to this is NG 9-3 cars, that have newer, more modern features that require a separate key-fob, and operate using a different procedure.
The dealer will replace the CIM or TWICE module of those vehicles if all keys have been lost, and cost you top dollar to do it. We can reprogram your computer's EEPROM to accept new keys, without replacing expensive modules.
How do you replace the ignition Key in the Saab XC90
It's probably time to replace your SAAB key fob if you're having trouble turning the lock barrel. Fortunately, the process is fairly simple and doesn't require you to visit a dealer. You can complete the process at home using a few simple tools.
You'll first need to prepare the keys for your new car. Before you start, ensure that the anti-theft device is disabled by placing blocks on your rear wheels and releasing the handbrake. Insert the key in the ignition and then turn the key to the "on" position. This will activate the accessories but not start the engine. Repeat this five times, and then put the key on the "on" position.
The next step is to get a replacement case for the old key fob. They are readily available at many auto parts stores and are typically very affordable. Based on the model, you can even get them without any electronic components.
To open up the case, put an flathead screwdriver into the slot in the middle, and gently work it. The case will split easily, and when you've done that, you'll have access to the internal electronics. Use a flathead screwdriver, which will gently pry open the electronic components.
