What to Do With Your Rep Kit

Rep kits are a great means to fix your gear until you reach the trailhead to have it professionally repaired. The trick is knowing what to do with it when you need it.

Tools

Being equipped with the right tools is crucial when working on the job. This kit is designed to meet that need and includes all the essential hand tools required to repair things in the field. The tools are all made of steel and are minimal plastic so they can endure the use. The kit includes a canvas zippered pouch for the coalcracker's tools, a twist awl, reamer cutting shears and Gimlets (5MM). It also includes a bottle of coalcracker oil, illustrated instructions, a wooden spool, a reamer, and twisted awl.

Repair Patches

If you've got holes or two in your gear, think about adding adhesive patches to your rep kit. These heavy-duty patches feature high-performance adhesives that are applied to a rugged polyurethane backing that allows a tear to recover under pressure. Available in clear or colored versions These patches offer durability against punctures, moisture, saltwater, sunlight and temperatures that are extreme.

If your kit doesn't include any of the above items, you might want to consider adding a bag of water-proof Aquaseal wader repair sealant. This water-tight adhesive will stick to plastics, fabric, metals and other materials for an enduring fix. This is ideal for repairs to drysuits and can also be utilized in the field. Let the sealant cure for up to 12 hours before applying the repaired gear.

The most essential field fabric repair kit for nylon tents with silicone impregnated packs, rep Kit rainwear, and more. The kit comes with one Clean Tape repair patch and a sil-nylon swatch. Also included is a 1/4 ounce Goretex Repair Adhesive and Sealant Brush for sealing. Apply patch to a clean flat surface. Allow a minimum 1/2 inch overlap. Remove release paper and rub the adhesive side down using moderate finger pressure.

Surface preparation is vital for successful repairs. Sunblock, acetone, or oil on boots and shoes can cause adhesion issues. For the best results, Rep Kit you should apply Seam Grip alone or with Cotol-240 Cure Accelerator to speed up curing time to 2 hours.

Adhesive Patches

If you're out on the trail and don't have time for a full vulcanising repair, these adhesive patches will get you back in the saddle quickly and without waiting. Simply roughen the tube with the included scraper, then apply one of the self-adhesive patches to apply the patches.

Clean up the area that has been punctured Then, apply the tube-scuffer or sandpaper to roughen the surface which helps glue stick. Spread a thin layer on the patch. Cover the area with a layer that is at least as big as the patch. Wait for the glue to become tacky, then press the patch in firmly and hold it in place.

This kit includes two clear, adhesive-backed Tenacious Tape fabric repair patches. It also comes with a 1/4 ounce Seam Grip urethane sealant and repair adhesive. Perfect for reinforcing damaged tents, sleeping bags rainwear, packs, and boots.
