Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

The best method to keep your home clean is to use a robot vacuum. It can remove dust, pet hair and other surface debris.

Some robots connect to smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Look for models that can be recharged and continue cleaning where they left off.

1. iRobot s8

This smart robot vacuum and mop combination is a fantastic choice for many homes. It is able to vacuum and mop well, has excellent navigation with both GPS and laser sensors, and has a wide range of controls and features accessible via the app. It comes with a useful feature that lets you create cleaning zones in areas that require extra attention, and also to create Keep Out zones in areas you do not want it to go. As with all Roomba devices, it receives new software updates that make it more efficient over time.

It's costly, but it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has evaluated. It has a high-powered battery that can clean an entire home in less than two hours. Additionally, it can switch between vacuuming and mopping at the touch of one button. It automatically empties the trash bin that is above its charging station, in contrast to other self-emptying robots that require you to empty the bin after each run.

It also has a number of other options, like intelligent obstacle avoidance which uses cameras in conjunction with processor-powered smarts to recognize obstacles. It's rarely tripped up or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests it was the best at avoiding objects like power cables. It's not as reliable in detecting pet waste, or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

While the Anker-owned Eufy has made its name in low-cost robot vacuums it hasn't previously offered an all-in-one model that can also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that offers a range of features that are advanced and is able to compete with more expensive models.

The most significant selling point for Eufy with the X8 is its laser navigation. The X8 uses a laser mapping system that is more precise than previous Eufy devices. It also takes significantly less time to construct a comprehensive picture of your living space and also stores multiple maps, which is ideal for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is a decent vacuum cleaner for floors that are clean. It can easily sling debris under the side brushes and into the 400ml dustbin. Its tyres are also very adept at hugging corners and edges despite being circular. Our tests showed that it could only remove 90% of the fur on hard floors.

There's a basic mopping option that utilizes the same water tank as the vacuuming one. While this is a good option for loose spills but you cannot control how much water it uses, which will limit its effectiveness on more serious stains. That said, it does an excellent job of removing pet hair, with a higher percentage of hair removal than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

The company is known for its quiet home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum comes with outstanding cleaning power, beautiful design, and a great navigation. However, it does have a few operational oddities that prevent it from being ranked as the best overall smart affordable robot vacuum vacuum.

Like iRobot's latest models like the RX2 has dual-sensor mapping which uses an LIDAR sensor to map out an area and a pair of 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once mapped the app allows you to assign virtual no-go areas and favorite sections that the robot will automatically clean. You can also initiate an automatic vacuum cleaner and mop clean or manually change the cleaning mode, see a live feed from the onboard cameras and more on the main screen.

The RX2's sensors are effective, registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. The suction and sweeping power are top-notch, picking up surface litter from medium-pile carpeting and embedded dust on floors with no floor. But it's not the most efficient robot available. Like many other robots it's not a great climber and has trouble with things like thresholds made of metal transition strips.

Some people buy a robot vacuum for the hands-off convenience of setting up a schedule using an app and then forgetting about it for weeks at a time. It's important for a robot to be capable of the task so our ZDNet team has tested and examined some of the most popular models to help you select the right one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget-friendly robot is just like your typical robot but it's upgraded in terms of performance and features. Its smart mapping system creates 2D and 3D maps of your home and uses those to navigate and avoid obstacles. It's also able to detect common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors, along with a bump sensor and an infrared drop sensor that keeps it away from steps, makes it one of the fastest vacs we've tried.

In our tests, it effortlessly climbed over thick shag rugs and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation abilities were also impressive. Its composite score for flooring and carpet was higher than the competition, and it picked up 98.5 percent of the surface litter and embedded dog hair from our lab test samples.

The controls are less basic than the competition's. There's a cleaning button at the top and you can choose to start it with the app or via voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also create a schedule for your daily or weekly cleans, set no-go zones, and view its history of cleaning. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and is attractive in your home. The dust bin on the rear is easy to access for emptying and cleaning the filter is equally easy.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is a good option if you're looking for a vacuum cleaner that is easy to use and has no frills at a low cost. This model lacks some smart features like Alexa integration and digital mapping found in more expensive models. However, if you don't need these functions, you can save money.

This robot is easy to set up and use. It does not require a smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does come with the remote control that allows you to choose between different modes and adjust suction level. You can also manually assign the robotvac to the schedule of cleaning.

In our tests, we found that the 11S was extremely effective at cleaning pet fur and dirt from carpets with low pile and hard floors. Its slim profile helped it reach under furniture and other low items that some of the more bulkier robots couldn't reach. It was able to pass easily over thresholds of doors and switch from one floor type to another.

Like other robots, the 11S is able to suck up some objects like cords, Vacuum robot mop drawstrings on hoodies, and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you can avoid this by keeping these objects off the floor and by using a cord organizer if possible. It also recommends cleaning the dustbin periodically replacing the filters, and washing or changing the brushes as required.

Roomba 990 by iRobot

The Roomba 980 is the flagship robot vacuum. It's expensive but it's an excellent performer and, in some ways, the most advanced robot vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigation feature and environmental mapping are a joy to behold. It has more advanced automation than the majority of its competitors, such as the ability to create virtual boundary markers through its mobile app. Although its application is a bit slow and the 980 can spin out a bit while rolling over cables, it's an extremely efficient robot vacuum.

We love the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneity mapping and localisation (or vSLAM), to memorise your home's floor plan. It will use this data to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path through each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum Robot mop than the majority of high-end robot vacuums.

Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes which grab dirt from carpets and hard floors, as well as a spinning brush to sweep debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. The floor tracking sensor assists it in maneuvering between furniture, along edges and on the stairs. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It also automatically returns to its base station to ensure hassle-free recharges between sessions. The bin capacity and the battery life of the 980 aren't as great as some other robot vacuums.
