Best Self-Empting Robot Vacuums and Mops

The Eufy 11S is one of the most affordable self-emptying robotic vacuums available. In our tests it was able remove dry oats from hard floors as well as carpets with low pile. Its dustbin is easy to empty and open- easier than those of other models in the same price range.

It recharges at its base and then cleans when it's at its best. But its obstacle-avoidance technology is caught in socks and cords and it's unable to operate under low thresholds.

1. iRobot Roomba 11S

It's great for scooting under furniture and appears to be a smart option for people with hard floors or who want to do light daily cleans. The suction might be a bit weaker than our top picks, however it still gets the job done. It also has a huge dirt bin and a battery that lasts for over an hour. The app allows you to schedule daily cleanings or choose a particular room. You can also map your home to allow the device to avoid areas you don't want it to visit.

The app is easy to use and has a simple layout. It's not an app with a lot of features however, it's simple to use and lets you monitor your robot's status. It comes with a tutorial that will walk you through the basics.

Bounce Navigation's cleaning pattern isn't always logical. Sometimes it follows straight lines while other times it focuses on the edges of the space. However, it cleans the entire floor. It's not the most adept at navigating obstacles though. It was unable to climb over our piano pedals and pet food bowls, and got caught in our 2.25-inch shag rug several times.

While it's a great option for light daily cleanings We believe there are better robot vacuums that are better than the 11S. The iRobot Roomba is much easier to maintain and has lower costs for recurring maintenance and is charged faster. It also has a bigger dustbin and performs better on all surface types and is able to overcome low-lying obstructions (like electrical cords) more easily.

The RoboVac 11S from Eufy is another option for regular vacuuming. It's design is very similar to our top choice, and is excellent at picking up fine dirt and larger debris on hard floors. It is able to do a great job on carpets with a medium or low pile. Like the Roomba by iRobot Roomba it also has a huge dirt compartment and utilizes BoostIQ to automatically adjust suction power. It also comes with an easy-to-use remote control to use and you can schedule daily cleanings using the app. The battery can last for around an hour, and the dustbin can be empty without taking it from the dock.

2. Roborock S7 maxV Ultra

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra robot mop and vacuum is a fantastic robot vacuum with self empty base that comes with a an array of amazing features for automation. The Roborock S7 MaxV is available in three models that include the basic S7 model and the S7 Plus model and the S7 Ultra. Only the latter has an Empty Wash Fill Dock (or an alternative Auto-Empty Dock). These docks allow the robot to return to its base following cleaning, empty the collected debris into a dust collection bag or reservoir, empty its dirty water tank, and wash its mopping pad.

Sensors on the S7 work together to clear obstacles and clean them. It can recognize flooring types, save the map of rooms and zones, and even detect dirt levels. It can also plan and execute spot cleaning sessions. It was able to perform well in our tests, but it wasn't able to exactly match the Roomba j7+ during the carpet deep clean test.

You can program the S7 by using the companion app to run a cleaning routine according to your schedule. You can choose an option for cleaning that is eco or automatic, as well as a weekday, day, or time. You can also decide whether the robot should stop if it is running out of power or encounters an obstacle.

If you don't have an iPhone however, you can still utilize the S7 by connecting a remote to its charging dock. The controls on the remote are a bit confusing however once you've mastered the use of them, they function well. It's easy to set up, comes with an enormous bin that is easy to empty (albeit slightly loudly) into a trash can when it's full and can be programmed to do a complete home cleaning schedule or as needed.

The IQ XL is able to connect to your WiFi at home, allowing you to monitor its progress in cleaning using the Shark app. The app lets you set cleaning schedules, receive push notifications about its status as well as pause and resume cleaning, or set it to only one room. It can also be controlled with voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The app will inform you which power mode it is currently in--Eco, Normal or Max--but we didn't find that any of the modes had a significant impact to the cleaning performance.

The IQ XL will automatically empty the dustbin at the end of a cleaning cycle into the base, which will automatically empty itself. The bin can store up to 60 days of debris, meaning it won't be required to empty it more than once unless your pets have long hair. If you need to empty it you can simply detach the side container and place it on top of your trash can and press the button.

The Shark IQ XL is a great vacuum cleaner. It does a great job of cleaning floors with no dust and can maneuver itself well. However it's not the best choice for carpeted floors. Shark IQ XL feels a slightly less sturdy than the Roomba 694. It does a good job of cleaning carpeted floors however, it isn't as efficient as the iRobot Roomba i7 in terms of the performance of bare floors. The i7 is also built better and feels more durable. It is sturdy, has less maintenance requirements, is able to charge lower recurring costs, charges faster, while offering similar battery performance and far more advanced automation features such as no-go zones as well as the ability to pick certain rooms to be cleaned.

4. iRobot J7+

This robot vacuum and mop combination is a rare find that can do both tasks well. IRobot's Combo j7+ offers all the features of its j7-based counterpart, including self-emptying and LiDAR mapping, but also includes additional features for both mopping and vacuuming.

The j7+ utilizes the new acoustic sensor to identify the floor type which allows it to vacuum or mop the room during its initial pass. This information is also utilized to help prioritize cleaning rooms that have carpets and rug versus those with hard flooring.

The j7+ is quieter than most robotic vacuums when running and even more quiet when it's mopping. The highest reading we could get on our decibel meter was 64db, which is similar to the noise of general office chatter.

You can easily set up an cleaning schedule and then change the way that dust is cleaned when the canister is full. The j7+ can also be controlled using voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.) The app allows you to create and view maps in your home.

In our tests, we found that the j7+ was a solid performer on both hard and carpeted flooring, removing the majority of the dirt we threw at it. It has a hard time with pet hair, large debris and sand. But it is able to clean them with more effort. It has good navigational abilities and two cliff sensors that stop it from falling down stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs.

We did notice a few minor niggles with the j7+, mainly that it can snag on rugs and cords and that it doesn't always turn off its mopping once it's done vacuuming. Overall, this is an excellent product that ticks all the right boxes.

iRobot's j7+ also has one of the best self-emptying vacuum self-emptying systems that we've tested. It spits out its 14oz / 0.4-liter dust container into the base station where it will automatically empty itself for you. This reduces the amount of garbage you have to throw away and you'll only have to replace the dust disposal bag from the dock around every 60 days or so, based on how often you use the J7+.
