Private ADHD
titration Period Adhd
There is currently a nationwide shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing problems and an increased demand in the world.
Our service is private ADHD titration instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of one prescription.
titration adhd
A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This includes a thorough medical history and an evaluation using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.
After your examination, you will be advised that medication may be beneficial in your case. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, by video link or by phone). Your doctor will go over the various options for medications available. If you decide to begin medication, we can help you to titrate your dose to ensure the best balance of benefits and side effects for you.
This is a process which could take a few weeks, and involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is achieved. It is not unusual to have to titrate three or four medications before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is crucial that parents participate in the

process and be aware of their child's behavior, so they can inform the doctor if the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.
If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay for your prescription at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You'll be required to attend every six months to check your medication - this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual checks are also required.
Follow-up appointments
Once the evaluation has been completed you will be able to schedule follow up appointments with the psychiatrist, as necessary. The appointment is usually done via zoom video call. In some cases, it may be possible to have an audio-only consultation to be conducted (again with an additional cost).
At this point, we will discuss any treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration plan. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage as well as a discussion around any side effects you might be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via telephone or video consultation. The pharmacy will be charged for any medication costs.
The doctor will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms have on your life, including any issues with relationships you may be experiencing or other mental health issues you may be experiencing. This is because ADHD is an inheritable condition, and it is crucial that we assess any family history that might suggest that you are at risk of developing the disorder.
It is important to be honest and truthful with your doctor during this assessment, as the information they get will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an important step because a wrong diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.
If you decide to receive treatment for ADHD, we'll arrange an appointment for a follow-up visit with a psychiatrist who is specialized in this field. This can be done in the wake of your diagnosis if you are eager to begin treatment immediately or within two weeks if you want to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the possibilities that are available to you.
If you are unsure of what your preference is it is recommended that you speak with your GP prior to scheduling your private examination as some providers have different policies about whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. We also advise to confirm that your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement that means that once you are discharged from the clinic, you will be returned to them for the prescription for medication.
Medication
Medication is an integral part of the journey for many who are looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. Finding prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be a hassle and long-winded. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.
One method to avoid this is to ask your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can pick a provider that offers a private assessment service and titration. This will cut down your waiting time considerably and can be more convenient if you're working and have a hectic schedule.
Once you've been referred, your clinician will examine you to determine if you require medication adjustment. You will be asked to fill out forms that differ by doctor but the main ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor determine any issues that could indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication if prescribed.
If you are being titrated the medication will be a combination stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. These will be carefully assessed and monitored to determine the right combination for you. The titration process can be lengthy and may need a few extra appointments before you're able to stay on your dose.
Depending on the type of medication you're taking, follow-up appointments can be scheduled either monthly or quarterly. Your doctor will ensure that you are stable with the medication, note any side effects you have experienced and make any needed adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dosage. You will also be required to attend a routine health check that may include blood pressure and pulse readings, as well as weight and weight measurements and an annual review.
For some individuals it could be that they are content with their medication and don't require a further discussion about their titration. However, for those who do need further discussions about the titration process and treatment plan, it is possible that they will be passed back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. If this happens, the titration appointment will be included in their consultation fees and they will be given their medication on private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than prescriptions from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
