Our plans to upgrade our solar PV system this year are slowly progressing with installing a new Solis 1.5kW inverter and an EM112 Series Energy Meter, which have RS485 output and communicate using Modbus protocol. With the RS485 Pi connected to the energy meter, we could read the data but not from the inverter. Boards can be ordered installed with a new meter, and they can also be purchased separately later and be simply plugged in. By using two jacks, up to 31 L485 boards can be connected in parallel for daisy chaining using readily available CBL03 data cables with no need for a hub. Half duplex has the advantage of only using three wires: ARX/ATX, BRX/BTX and GND. With Modbus RTU, sending and receiving are never simultaneous, so half duplex is as fast as full duplex. If you want to use a stack with RS485 Extension in your existing Modbus network, you have to match the values with the other bus participants. Then use front panel programming to set the baud rate, protocol, digital address, half or full duplex, and other available parameters. In all other cases, half duplex and full duplex will work equally well.
Two wire telephone cables will not function because in that case the ground signal levels on both sides will be floating. In order to avoid signal reflections, a 120 Ohm termination resistance must be fitted on each end of the main cable. I be looking in order to get closer a solution? They are now looking for alternative panels which are similar dimensions to fit across our roof. We found panels produced by JA Solar which are 1689 x 996mm and have a 330W output, and we could fit 5 or 6 of these on the roof between the chimneys. We found that there are 10K ohm resistors fitted on the A & B data lines with the A channel having a 10K pull-up resistor to 3.3 volts and the B channel having a 10K pull-down resistor to ground. RS485 uses two wires and sometimes a ground connection, so we used a twin-screen cable to go between the inverter to the EM112 Series Energy Meter and then onto the Raspberry Pi with a DB9 connector connected to the RS485 Pi board.
With the Solis inverter connected to the Raspberry Pi, we were initially unable to communicate with the inverter, and the Python scripts returned connection errors. RS485 master is the Master Brick which has a USB, Ethernet or WIFI connection to the PC running brickd. The TESTER-CCTVPOE-P Professional CCTV Tester with Power Over Ethernet (PoE) and IP Testing is a portable, multifunction tester for CCTV installations and maintenance. Two Tibbo Project System (TPS), Gen. 2-compatible Tibbo BASIC applications for the setup and testing of Bus Probes are available: BP-Tester-UI and BP-Tester-Web. Bus Probes are a family of low-power environmental sensors with an RS485 interface. Bus Probes are very compact (measuring only 40x36mm externally) and sport an attractive look and feel. The wires are named A (negative) and B (positive). RS485 is simpler because it uses only two wire (or a single pair) to carry out the data in bidirectional manner, using RS232, we need 3 wires at minimum to carry the data bidirectionally. With this boards, a CBL03 lines with RJ11 connectors can branch out to support an RS485 line consisting of three discrete wires. The two jacks are for RS485 cable in and RS485 cable out.
Laureate meters are modular with a middle slot reserved for a communication board, as illustrated in our Laureates Overview web page. What communication protocols are supported by RS485? The Jazz PLC series from Unitronics are not standard equipped with a RJ11 connector for serial communications. The RS232-RS485 adapter circuit diagram is show below, RS232 DB9 is used as the RS232 port, while only a terminal block is used as RS485 connector. If your PC or controller only has RS232 port then you need an RS232 to RS485 converter or adapter for your PC or controller. To connect an RS485 device or RS485 network to any PC or controller, the PC or the controller should provide RS485 interface also. The interface is normally terminated on a 4 wire screw block. If handshaking is not necessary, an ordinary 4 wire telephone cable could be used, provided that the pins are cross-connected as shown in the picture below.
