Private ADHD Titration
There is a current national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing problems as well as an increased demand in the world.
Our service offers private ADHD treatment instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessments are free and include the cost of one prescription.
Titration
A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history, and an evaluation using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.
After your evaluation After your assessment, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your situation. This will happen at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person via video link or by phone). Your doctor will go over the various options for medications available. If you decide to begin medication, we will offer you the opportunity to increase your dosage to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.
This is a process which may take several weeks and requires adjusting your child's dosage gradually until the appropriate balance is reached. It's not uncommon to need to titrate two or three medicines before finding the one that is best for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential for parents to be involved in this titration process and keep a close eye on their child's behaviour so that they can let the doctor know if the medicine is helping or causing adverse effects.
Unless you have decided to return to NHS care the medication you take will be provided with a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). You must attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication - this includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual checks are also required.
Follow-up appointments
Once the assessment is completed, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. Usually the appointment will take place through a video call using zoom but in certain circumstances it is possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).
In this session, we'll discuss treatment options and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration program. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dosage and any adverse effects you might be experiencing. The cost of these titration appointments is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.
The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms impact your life, including any issues with your relationships that you may be facing or any other mental health issues you may be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, so it's important to look into your family's history to determine if you are at a greater risk of developing this disorder.
During this assessment it is vital to be truthful and honest with your doctor who will be using the information you provide to determine whether you have the diagnostic criteria for

. This is a vital part of the process, as failing to do so could result in an inaccurate diagnosis and consequently an inappropriate prescription of medication.
If you have decided that you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD, we will then arrange a follow up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialise in this field. If you'd like to start treatment right away, you can do this immediately following the diagnosis. Or you can wait for two weeks before considering the implications of the diagnosis and your options.
If you're not sure which one you prefer We suggest you speak with your GP prior to booking your private appointment as certain providers have different policies about whether they require an GP referral letter or not. Find out if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic for prescriptions for medication.
Medication
For many people who want a private diagnosis of ADHD treatment is a crucial element of their treatment. It isn't always easy to obtain a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.
One method to circumvent this is to ask your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that offers an assessment on your own and titration. This can help you reduce time and be more convenient, especially if you have a busy schedule.
After you have been diagnosed, your doctor will evaluate you to determine if you need medication titration. You'll need to fill out forms that differ by provider, but the most common ones are self-reporting questions and medical histories dating to childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor to determine if there are reasons that suggest that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication, even in the event that they've been prescribed.
If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be thoroughly examined and monitored to determine the best combination for you. The process of titration can be lengthy and may require a few extra appointments before you're stable on your dosage.
Based on the type of medication you're taking, follow-up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly. Your doctor will ensure whether you are stable on the medication, note any adverse reactions you've experienced and make any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dosage. You will be required to attend an annual review and a regular health check-up that includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.
Some patients may be content with their medication, and don't need to discuss their
titration Period adhd
further. However, for those who require further discussion about their titration and treatment plan it's possible to be passed back to the private clinic that performed their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be part of their consultation fees and they will be given their medication through a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than an NHS prescription since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
