First, you'll need prepare the new key. Before starting, make sure that the anti-theft device is disabled by placing blocks on the rear wheels and engaging the handbrake. Insert the key into the ignition and then turn the key to the "on" position. This will activate the accessories however, it won't start the engine. Repeat this process five times and leave the key in the on position.

You'll then need to purchase a new case for your key fob. They can be found at a variety of auto parts stores and are usually extremely affordable. Depending on the model, you could even buy them without electronics.

To open the case, place a flathead screwdriver inside the slot that is in the middle. Gently work it. Once you split the case, you will be able to access all the internal electronic components. To take the electronics out, employ a small screwdriver and try prying them out with a gentle force.
